We host an Auxiliary Chartered Group and Honor Guard Unit
**The Post has recently purchased property at 7057 Henry Harris Rd, Lancaster, SC 29720. At this time the building there is large enough for Honor Guard and Post Auxiliary meetings as well as various committee meetings. Outdoor activities will also be conducted there.
Our programs support our service members while they are on the front line, as they are being discharged and long after they return. Your tax-deductible donation will be immediately directed to the VFW programs where your support is most urgently needed.

Welcome to the Commander’s Corner! As we continue our mission at CPT John P. Monahan VFW Post 12136, we remain steadfast in our commitment to service, camaraderie, and honoring our nation’s veterans. Here are some key highlights from our February meeting that demonstrate the value of being a part of the VFW.
Community Engagement:
Our Adopt-A-Highway program continues with the next cleanup scheduled for April 25. This is a great way to show our dedication to keeping our community clean and making a visible impact.
A VFW Post 12136 sponsored an 8th grade student from Indian Land Middle School won 1st Place in the Patriot Pen Essay contest as well as First Place at the VFW District 5 level and First Place at the Department of SC level. This year’s writing theme, "Is America Today Our Forefathers’ Vision” challenges students to reflect on their role in shaping the future of the country.
Since 1947 the Voice of Democracy has been the VFW’s premier scholarship program.. The Patriot’s Pen Contest is an annual opportunity for middle school students to engage with patriotic ideals while honing their writing skills. Her essay was forwarded on to be judged at the VFW National Level competition. First Place VFW National winners will be announced during the March 2025 Washington Conference in Washington D.C.
Veteran Support:
Our Honor Guard was engaged in 14 events last month, showcasing our ongoing dedication to military rites and ceremonies. More volunteers are needed—please consider stepping up.
The post approved a $1,000 donation from our Buddy Poppy Fund to hurricane relief efforts in the Carolinas. This is a testament to our commitment to supporting veterans in need.
The weekly CPT Ray Dunsmore Veterans Coffee gathering continues to thrive, with an average attendance of 25-30 members. This is a great place to connect with fellow veterans over a cup of coffee.
Fellowship Opportunities:
The American Legion Post 250 is now meeting at our facility, strengthening our ties with fellow veterans’ organizations and expanding our network of support.
Fundraising & Continuous Improvement:
We are gearing up our Buddy Poppy fundraiser to be held during Memorial Day weekend. The Post Auxiliary will be assisting our efforts during this drive.
Plans are in motion to enhance accessibility at our post, including improvements to handicapped parking.
Looking Ahead:
Officer nominations begin in April, with elections in May and new officers taking office in June. Your participation in this process ensures strong leadership for our post.
The Post will award the First, Second and Third Place Patriot Pen Essay winners during the annual Indian Land Middle School Awards/Graduation ceremony in May 2025.
The upcoming VFW Memorial Golf Tournament on June 2, 2025, is an opportunity to participate in a fun and meaningful fundraising event. We encourage all members to spread the word and get involved.
The Flag Placement event in May is another chance to come together and honor our fallen heroes. Your participation is vital in continuing this tradition of remembrance.
